This thread for those of you that have our bluetooth headsets and are having issues with some or several PlayStation 3 games. First let's start off with some facts about the PlayStation 3, Online Games, and Bluetooth Headsets. The following information has been gathered from several forums and tests we have run with our PlayStation 3, its games and the Gameshark Bluetooth Headset.
  • The PlayStation 3 can support up to 7 Bluetooth Devices.
  • Bluetooth headsets must first be registered (paired) with the PlayStation 3 before it can be used. (PAIRING YOUR HEADSET)
  • PlayStation 2 Online Games such as SOCOM do not have Bluetooth headset support. (unless otherwise stated on the game box)
  • NOT ALL PlayStation 3 games support Bluetooth headsets (example: Call of Duty 3) so always check to make sure that it does.

TROUBLESHOOTING
  • Make sure your headset battery is charged before using. A full charge will have a talk time of about 5-6 hours.
  • The headset (8860) should be set as the input/output device in the XMB (Cross Media Bar).
  • Make sure you have no other Bluetooth devices emitting a signal near the PS3.
  • Always make sure your PlayStation 3's firmware is up to date and that any PlayStation 3 games you may be playing online are up to date.
  • The headset will flash 4x when it's connected and getting feedback. When it's flashing 2x, press the K1 button to resync the headset.
  • If you experience your controller locking up or the headset disconnecting, this issue lies with the PlayStation 3. When the controller locks up or kicks the headset off, it is the console crossing frequencies between the controller and the headset. When it crosses frequencies, it will sometimes try and read the headset as a controller which will, in turn, cause the controller to lock up. If this happens, it is suggested that you turn the PlayStation 3 completely off (hard cycle using the power switch on the back) and resync the headset. This is an issue with the PlayStation 3, not the headset (will happen to any brand).
PlayStation 3 Games

Resistance: Fall of Man
  • There is a new update (3/20/07) that may address mic problems. They have fixed a bug that made the voice chat degrade during a long game.
  • A second update seems to have affected the voice chat in-game. There are a few more reports of mics cutting out. Also some report that their mic works for one game, but then fails.
  • The first patch has changed the voice function. Now press L3 to talk in lobby and in game. If you used the "Form Party" option, the mic is open to those in your Party. You must press L3 to talk to everyone else.
  • There have been many reports of the mics dropping out in-game. Odds are that this is just a typical online game problem, not a hardware issue. If anyone notices anything else about this, please post.
Fight Night Round 3 (PS3)
  • Open mic. You don't need to press a button to talk.
Madden NFL '07 (PS3)
  • Voice chat available in-game only. You cannot chat in the pre/post game lobbies.
  • Pressing L3 will mute your voice in the game which is indicated by a red speaker icon. If the speaker icon is green, then you are not on mute.
Motorstorm
  • Open mic.
  • Currently only 2 people can talk at one time (if this has changed please post).
  • If lag occurs during online gameplay, the mics may be temporarily suspended to improve online performance.
Rainbow Six: Vegas
  • There are some Bluetooth headset issues (all makes and models, not just Gameshark) that Ubisoft is working on a patch to resolve. Please be patient.
  • There is an issue where voice chat fails after the 1st mission. It seems to be a lag issue. As long as the headset is flashing blue 4x it's still connected to the PS3 so just leave it alone. The next mission should restore voice chat.
  • If you are hearing garbled voices or heavy static it is an issue possibly related to lag. Be patient and it will improve when lag decreases.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (PS3)
  • Open mic.
  • Sometimes the headset will disconnect from the PS3 which is indicated by the blue light flashing 2x. Press the K1 button once to sync the headset with the PS3. Once it is connected to the PS3, you will see the blue light flash 4x.
Tiger Woods 2007 (PS3)
  • Make sure the mic is connected to the PS3 (headset light is flashing 4x) before loading the game.
The following PlayStation 3 games currently DO NOT SUPPORT ANY BLUETOOTH HEADSETS (if otherwise, please POST and let us know)
  • Armored Core 4
  • Blazing Angels
  • Call of Duty 3
  • F.E.A.R.

  • Full Auto 2: Battlelines
  • NBA 2K7
  • NHL 2K7
  • Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
The following PlayStation 3 games have not yet been tested with the Gameshark Bluetooth Headset - however, feel free to chime in and post if you have tried it and if it did/didn't work.

I'm using the bluetooth headset that came with SOCOM: Confrontation, but this is the step that I was missing during setup:

"The headset (8860) should be set as the input/output device in the XMB (Cross Media Bar)."

Easy to overlook, IMO. Also, I would get a mic icon on screen but no function (naturally) before selecting it in the input/output option. Might just make sure that this step wasn't overlooked. Best of luck.
